Our impact

The good we've done, by the numbers.

Universal Basic builds technology that gives back more than it takes, for people and for the planet. Here's what that adds up to so far.

What we stand for

Good for people. Good for the planet.

Powered by our own sun

NoFootprint runs on hardware we own, powered by our own off-grid solar panels and batteries.

Every grid watt repaid

If we ever draw from the grid, it's metered and paid back with retired solar RECs at a minimum of 100%.

Your data, never sold

We don't sell your data to advertisers, brokers, or anyone, and your conversations never train our AI.

Proud to show our work

We publish our real numbers so anyone can check them, and we update them as we grow.

Powered by the sun

How NoFootprint runs on sunshine.

NoFootprint runs on hardware Universal Basic Inc owns, powered by our own off-grid solar array. Here's exactly how much clean energy that is, and how we account for every watt.

2.5 MWh

of solar electricity generated and consumed by NoFootprint to date. Our array is off-grid: it does not export to the utility and is not net-metered.

Where the electricity comes from

Cumulative electricity used to operate NoFootprint, by source. The utility figure is an upper bound, not a measured total, so it's drawn hatched.

  • Utility: metered on failover, upper bound

How a request gets powered

Solar array off-grid Primary node solar powered Your request if unavailable or low on stored power Fallback node utility power, metered Metered kWh recorded offset with retired RECs at ≥100%
  1. Solar array → primary node. Your request is served by hardware on our own off-grid panels and batteries.
  2. Fallback node. If the primary is unavailable or low on stored power, a utility-powered node takes over.
  3. Metered and repaid. Every fallback kWh is recorded and offset with retired RECs at ≥100%.

The commitment

We retire Renewable Energy Certificates covering at least 100% of all metered utility electricity used to operate NoFootprint. Not a portion of it, and not at some future date conditional on growth. All of it.

One REC represents one megawatt-hour of renewable generation, and certificates are ordinarily sold and retired in whole-MWh units. That sets a practical floor on when a purchase can first be made, which is why the counter above still reads zero.

Certificates retired

None needed yet. Our metered grid use hasn't reached one megawatt-hour, the smallest unit a certificate covers.

Each retirement is listed with its tracking registry, serial or retirement identifier, generation vintage and fuel type, megawatt-hours retired, retirement date, and the usage period it covers, so the claim can be checked against the registry rather than taken on our word.

How we keep count

  • We don't claim every request is served by sunlight. Failover to utility-powered hardware happens, and it's metered.
  • We don't sell, transfer, or otherwise monetise renewable attributes from our own generation. Nothing here is counted twice.
  • We don't claim carbon neutrality across the business. This report covers the electricity used to operate NoFootprint, not manufacturing our hardware, shipping, or travel.
  • We don't claim a certification we haven't obtained. If we later purchase through a certified programme, we'll name it here.

AI is electricity-hungry, and most "green" claims in this industry can't be checked. Ours can: we own the hardware and the panels, and any grid power we use is paid back at a minimum of 100%.
